This past Friday, Durango photographer McCarson Jones staged one of the coolest events I’ve been to in a long time. The inspiration: Carson began to notice that even some incredibly accomplished women are shy in front of the camera. She realized that this hesitation wasn’t just in front of a lens—many of us are shy to promote ourselves and our businesses across all media, from writing to radio. So Carson brought together five speakers to school us all on authentic, effective self-presentation across various media: photography, radio and public speaking, style, make-up and profile writing. I spoke on the latter, but the best part was I got to sit in on all of the others in Carson’s gorgeous white airy studio on North Main, alongside women ranging from executive directors of organizations to owners of successful local businesses. I’m still digesting everything and feel so grateful that I was able to participate in such a cool event. Stay tuned—I think Carson will run another seminar in the fall.
